Resolved Question: Do I need a New York DL and Plates?

Hi there, I just moved to Syracuse, New York from Illinois to attend graduate school here and I was wondering if since I'm a student am I exempt from being required to get a NY driver's license and license plates or do I still need to get them? I'm only going to be here for a year when my program is done so it seems like a waste to get them when I'll just have to get Illinois ones again while I'm done with school.
